Hi folks,

I'm planning some more fundraising this year, with a definite bias towards leaping off tall buildings. I was also planning to do a Euro RailRace but that has been put in the sidings at the moment due to changes in the Euro Priv ticketing facilities.

Here's the events I'm currently hoping to do, and the current status of them all

July 1st - The Marquess of Anglesey Column Abseil (30m) http://www.eightpointtwo...event_details.asp?ID=95 Booked and Confirmed

July 7th - The National Abseil Centre abseil (127m) http://www.nationalabseilcentre.co.uk/
At 418 feet (127m), the National Abseil Centre is the tallest permanent abseil tower in the world. Every year I've doubled the night I've abseiled from and have this on my done list would be fantastic - Currently checking if I'm physically able to do it

September 30th - The Trafford Centre Abseil (60m) http://www.eightpointtwo...event_details.asp?ID=59 Not booked yet

October 6th - Walsall Art Gallery Abseil (30m) http://www.eightpointtwo...vent_details.asp?ID=124 Booked and confirmed
ooked yet[/color]

Euro Railrace - Currently delayed, will keep you posted!

Also pondering getting a motorbike again, if/when that comes off I'm sure I can get an event for that too.

Thanks to everyone for your support in the past :)

Hi Jo

Wow!! You have some amazing stuff lined up here Jo ThumpUp The National Abseil Centre looks a mite scary, to say the least (think I'm secretly hoping you aren't fit enough to do that one, I will worry until I know you have landed safely!), but what a buzz to complete it Smile I will be at the Trafford Centre to support you in September.

The Euro Rail Race sounds great. Hope you are able to get this one out of the sidings and back on track. Could be an interesting fundraiser BigGrin Would love to join you but I suspect I would spend more than I raised!!

Motorbike??? Scared You have completely lost the plot Jo Connors! What about your shoulders ... not to mention the rest of you?!

This woman's a nutter guys ... but love her to bits! Please support Jo in her challenges for NRAS if you are able ThumpUp Go Jo!

Are you mad or brave Jo?! I'm not sure!

If you let us know when you have them all confirmed we will do whatever we can to publicise the challenge and get some support hopefully!

Well done and thank you

Hi Jo,

What an incredibly busy time you have ahead of you! I can't believe you are planning on taking part in 4 abseils this year.

As Tracey posted we will be very happy to help promote all your events, we already have you on the online page of our website and would be happy to mention you in our e-news now and again.

Your non stop support is very much appreciated Jo, keep up the good work!

Wow - this is truly inspirational! I'm starting to wonder what sort of forum I've joined........

I've never done a big abseil before (not that I'm really volunteering now!) but I wonder how you got started? I'd like to come along to the Walsall event - just to watch and support you and maybe meet face-to-face some of the lovely people I've met online. As far as fund raising is concerned, I'd better get my finger out and organise a "Tea for 12" and not put off any longer!!

All the very best - Sylvia xx

Hiya Sylvia,

Take no notice of anything I get up to, as most folks on here and all the staff at the NRAS office say I'm completely bonkers Razz

I did some abseiling when I was younger and really enjoyed it, with the onset of the RA at 26 I thought that was the end of it, but apart from the long term damage I have the last few years have been quite good and I do believe that you can still do the things you love, you might just have to change the way you do it.

I did an abseil a few years ago at Kings College Hospital that was organised by NRAS, and since then I've got the bug back as it's something I can do (with a bit of difficulty) but the company that organised the ones I attend (eight point two) are wonderfully supportive and help with the trickier bits and the buzz you get when you get back to solid ground is worth it.

I've got the Walsall one booked already, but I'm tempted to do the Trafford centre one again (which is double the hight of this one) and so so tempted by the one in Northampton, which is double the Trafford centre one (see it's totally true that I'm bonkers)

It's always lovely to have some folks cheering you on at anything like this, and it's great to finally put a face to the wonderful people I've met over the years through NARS and became good friends with! And a tea for 12 is a great a fundraiser, as is a quiz and anything like that (especially if it involves cake).

Right.. I'm off to look at the prices of a 750cc Motorbike.... Blink

Take care Sylvia!

Hi Sylvia

I've known Jo a good while now and she is lovely ThumpUp but unfortunately absolutely crackers with it! We love her to bits though Wub

Hoping we will be able to arrange a get together of RA friends, perhaps in the autumn, so a great opportunity to meet others with RA. Will keep you posted ... you would love itSmile

Wow Jo, you're mad and amazing! Just had a thought here - how about we add up the total height of each of the abseils you have done (and are intending to do) and could then get something out to people and press to say that you have abseiled a total of xxxx ft which is the equivalent of say, Mount Kilimanjaro or something similar? What do you think?

And now a motorbike, go girl!

Huge thank you from us all at NRAS.

I really hope I'm not going to seen as a wet blanket now! I am really concerned that people with RA and also NRAS publicise widely what they are doing to raise funds. Sadly, DLA and benefits are now so hard to come by I wonder whether it may be better to be a little more circumspect? I heard very recently about snoopers on FB reporting back to the DWP about the exploits of the disabled in connection with fund raising. Sorry, Tracey, but getting Jo's story in the papers maybe good for NRAS but would it be good for Jo? I know I'll get a storm of protest from this post, but I am just concerned for everyone in this present climate. Just want everyone to be safe. xxxx
